Former Hunter tennis coach Todd Woods charged with indecent assault

Todd Woods.

A former Hunter tennis coach will face court this week for alleged historical indecent assault offences against a teenager that he was instructing, after he was charged in recent weeks following a three-year investigation.

Todd Ramsey Woods was charged by Hunter Valley Police District detectives on July 30 and will face court on Wednesday.

The Newcastle Herald understands the 57-year-old was a well-known children's tennis coach in the Maitland area - coaching at East Maitland in the 1990s and 2000s.

The charges came after Hunter detectives in June, 2017, began investigating allegations of indecent assault against a teenage girl during the late 1990s and early 2000s.

Mr Woods has been charged with three counts of inciting aggravated indecency victim under 16 and under authority, two counts of inciting aggravated indecency victim over 16 and under authority and one count of indecent assault.

Police will allege in court that, while Mr Woods was working as a tennis coach, he indecently assaulted a girl he was instructing.

Police said the alleged offences took place on multiple occasions at East Maitland and elsewhere in the Hunter - and that the girl was aged between 13 and 17 years old at the time.

Mr Woods was issued a Court Attendance Notice when he was charged in July and was not arrested.

He is scheduled to face Maitland Local Court on Wednesday.
