Former How presenter Fred Dinenage retires from ITV Meridian

Former How and How2 presenter Fred Dinenage has retired from ITV Meridian ending a glistening presenting career.

The former Portsmouth Grammar schoolboy began his career at Southern Television in 1964 but became best known for his stint presenting the news in the South East.

Now, 38 years after starting his regional news career, he has decided to call it a day.

Speaking to ITV Meridian this morning, Fred said, "It started as a seven-week contract at Southern TV on a children's programme in 1963 - it's lasted 58 years.

"I still can't believe it.

"I've been so happy at ITV. I just want to say thank you to my dear colleagues, and our wonderful viewers for giving me so much love and support."

Dinenage will be known to many as the presenter of children's TV HOW and How2, where he was the host between 1990 and 2006. The programme was resumed again in 2020.
