Former Hibs hero Stephane Omeonga relishing new challenge after joining Serie B side Pescara

Former Hibernian star Stephane Omeonga has joined Italian second tier side Pescara after leaving Genoa.

The Easter Road favourite had two successful loan spells in Leith from the Stadio Luigi Ferraris under Paul Heckingbottom and Jack Ross and had been briefly linked with a return to the club.

However, he will now link up with Italian World Cup winner Massimo Oddo at the Stadio Adriatico after agreeing a deal with the Serie B side.

The club finished 17th in the division last season and only narrowly avoided relegation to the third tier after winning a play-off against Perugia on penalties.

Omeonga made 27 appearances across his two spells at Hibs, scoring once in last season's Scottish Cup win over Inverness Caledonian Thistle.

The Belgian midfielder became popular among the green and white faithful for his committed displays and incisive passing ability.

He also spent time on loan at Cercle Brugge in his homeland but agreed his departure from Genoa earlier this week after three years under contract with the club.

The move also means he will likely lock horns with another Hibs hero in Liam Henderson after the Scottish Cup winner edged closer to a move to fellow Serie B side Lecce.

Posting on Twitter, Omeonga wrote: "A new step in my career, a new challenge. I’m happy to be a part of Pescara. Motivated and excited to start."
