Former Hibs defender Jason Naismith agrees deal with Premiership club after leaving English side

Former Hibernian defender Jason Naismith has rejoined Ross County after leaving Peterborough United.

The 26-year-old was allowed to leave the Weston Homes Stadium by mutual consent after making just two Football League Trophy appearances this season.

The former St Mirren man spent last season on loan at Easter Road before his campaign was ended early by a serious knee injury picked up in January's Scottish Cup fourth round draw with Dundee United at Tannadice.

Jack Ross had been rumoured to be open for the full back to return to the club, but the form of Paul McGinn has left the right back slot in Leith filled.

Naismith is instead set to join another of his former sides after agreeing a deal in Dingwall to the end of the season.

He made 57 appearances for the Staggies between 2017 and 2018, scoring twice before moving south to join League One Posh in the summer of 2018.

He was signed on loan by Paul Heckingbottom last summer before a knee injury ended his campaign early.

Ross County boss Stuart Kettlewell told the club website: “Anybody that remembers Jason’s first period here will be well aware of just how big an asset he was for the club and that was merited in his transfer to Peterborough.

"Jason was an important figurehead here previously and there is no doubt he has the potential to play a big role here again.

“I hope that our fans are as excited to have Jason back as we, as a club, are. He is certainly a player that can bring a lot to the group in terms of ability but also as a support for the players in and around him which I think you could see during an impressive spell on loan at Hibs last season."
