Former Hibs boss Paul Heckingbottom linked with Sheffield United role

Former Hibernian manager Paul Heckingbottom is set for a role with Premier League side Sheffield United, according to reports.

The ex-Leeds United boss has been out of work since being sacked by the Easter Road club in November last year following a terrible start to the season.

However, the Yorkshireman is now poised to return to the dugout as The Blades new under-23 manager - despite being linked to a number of senior posts.

The former Barnsley boss - who represented United's city rivals Sheffield Wednesday as a player - is the club's top choice to replace the recently departed Andy Hughes, according to The Sun .

Heckingbottom made an encouraging start to his career in Leith as he picked up the manager of the month award for March last year after taking the side on a six-game unbeaten run.

He went on to end Hibs' six-year wait for a win over Hearts at Tynecastle, however his new look side struggled in the early part of last season, winning just one of their first 11 league matches.

He was dismissed after the 5-2 Betfred Cup semi-final defeat to Celtic and has been without a club since despite reports linking him with a vacancies at Bristol Rovers and, more recently, Bolton Wanderers.

Previously, he earned English League One and Football league trophy honours with Barnsley, before moving on to Leeds.

However, he lasted just four months in the job at Elland Road and was replaced by Marcelo Bielsa in June 2018.
