Former Hibs boss John Hughes back in management as he answers Scottish Premiership SOS call

Former Hibs boss John Hughes has been appointed as Ross County’s new manager.

“Yogi” replaces Stuart Kettlewell, who was sacked just minutes after The Staggies 2-0 Scottish Premiership defeat at home to Hamilton on Saturday.

That result left County four points adrift at the foot of the table and they have turned to Hughes to try and get them out of trouble.

"John is a well-distinguished and well-known figure within the game and has very valuable experience in the Scottish Premiership," the club said.

The former Celtic defender hasn’t taken charge of a club in three years since a disastrous attempt to save Raith Rovers from relegation to League Two ended with a dressing room fall out and Hughes’ departure from Stark’s Park.

He has previously enjoyed success in the Highlands however, leading Inverness CT to third in the league and winning the Scottish Cup back in 2015.

It’s over a decade since Hughes was in the Easter Road hot seat after landing the job in 2009.

He secured qualification for the UEFA Cup in his first season with a fourth placed finish before poor results at the start of the 2010/11 campaign resulted in him leaving by mutual consent in October and was replaced by Colin Calderwood.

Hughes returns to his former club in just nine days' time when Hibs host Ross County on 30 December.
