Former Hibernian and Falkirk goalkeeper joins Airdrie

Airdrie have announced the signing of young goalkeeper Jay Cantley.

The 18-year-old played for League One rivals Falkirk last season but he's made the move to the Diamonds.

The young stopper progressed through the academy at Hibernian and Ian Murray hopes he can provide competition for number one Max Currie.

Cantley told Airdrie's website: "I’m happy to be here, as soon as I heard of the interest it was a place I wanted to come to.

“For me it’s about progression - I want to better myself both on and off the pitch, so I’m looking forward to getting in and working with the lads ahead of what will hopefully be a successful season.”

Diamonds boss Ian Murray added: “We’re really glad to add Jay who will come in and challenge Max.

“Max did well last season, but it was very important to have a solid second choice after losing David Hutton, and Jay has a good background after coming through at Hibs and Falkirk.

“I know there were a lot of teams looking at him but he felt that this was the best place for him, and we welcome him to the club with the aim of progressing him.

We’re not signing Jay to sit on the sidelines and cheer Max on, we want that competition for the position.”
