Former Hetton pub could be demolished to make way for new homes

A former pub could be razed to the ground to make way for homes under new plans lodged with Sunderland City Council.

Last week, a planning application was validated to demolish The Lyons Tavern, off Four Lane Ends, in the Hetton ward.

Applicant Clifton Properties Yorkshire Ltd is looking for consent to build up to seven homes on the 695 square metre site.

According to planning documents, the pub has been vacant for several years.

As an outline application, details of the scale, design and layout of the new homes would be decided at a later date.

A decision on the demolition is expected by early June.

A method statement also explains the process and safety measures around any future works.

This includes fencing off the car park area for site traffic only, asbestos surveys and ecological checks.

Comments on the plans can be made by writing to the city council’s planning department before Tuesday, May 5.
