Former Hearts midfielder Jamie Hamill has landed his first managerial role after being appointed as Stranraer’s new boss.
Hamill had been player/coach at the Stair Park club, but has now been thrust into the hot seat after predecessor Stevie Farrell replaced Jim Duffy at Dumbarton.
Stranraer finished fourth in League Two last season but were eliminated from the play-offs by Edinburgh City, who in turn were beaten in the final by Dumbarton.
Duffy’s departure after that game meant Farrell moved on and left a vacancy for Hamill to fill.
He’ll be assisted by one-time Hibs striker Darryl Duffy while Scott Robertson steps up to become player/coach.
Stranraer chairman Shaun Niven said: "This is an exciting time for the club and a great opportunity for our new management team.
“I know they are keen to get started and I’m delighted that Jamie, Darryl and Scott have agreed to come on board.”
Hamill spent three years at Tynecastle between 2011 and 2014, signing on a free transfer from formative club Kilmarnock.
The former Scotland Under 21 international made 82 appearances in maroon, scoring 15 times.
He played apart in the Jambos’ successful Scottish Cup campaign in 2012, but missed the semi-final and final after suffering a serious knee injury.
Hamill found himself as one of the few experienced heads just two years later as Hearts were hit with a transfer embargo and a 15 point deduction after entering administration.
The club was relegated to the Championship as a result and Hamill left at the end of that season.
