Former Hearts player 'devastated' after suffering double leg break during Glentoran loan spell

Former Hearts player Bobby Burns has been left "devastated" after suffering a double leg break while on loan at Glentoran.

The 21-year-old, who departed Hearts earlier this year, was stretched off after being injured in a tackle during the clash with Coleraine at the Showgrounds on Saturday.

James McLaughlin received a red card for the tackle, but Burns says there's "no hard feelings" and he's confident the tackle was an honest one.

He posted to social media: "Absolutely gutted to get a double leg break in the tibia and fibula. Long road to recover but looking forward to getting stuck into the rehab and coming back better than ever next season.

"No hard feelings at all to James. He's a great lad and I have no doubt it was an honest tackle to play the ball.

"Just want to say a huge thanks to everyone for all the messages of support. I've been overwhelmed by your kindness and will do my best to get back to everyone individually soon.

"Special thanks to Dr Peter Reid, everyone at the Causeway and Royal Victoria Hospital, and Glentoran and Coleraine FC for the great level of care and support. It's a wonderful mark of the Irish league family that at least one person from every club contacted me."

Burns is currently on loan at Coleraine from English League Two side Barrow.

The midfielder, who also plays at full-back, signed for Hearts in 2018 and was at Tynecastle for two years. He also spent a spell on-loan at Livingston.
