Former Hearts midfielder Laryea Kingston clears up confusion over managerial appointment

Laryea Kingston has denied he’s been appointed Hearts of Oak manager on an interim basis.

Reports in Ghana emerged over the weekend claiming the former Hearts midfielder had been placed in temporary charge of another of his ex-clubs in a bid to arrest their poor form in the Ghanaian Premier League.

However, the Black Stars international gave an interview over the weekend saying he had not been contacted about any potential managerial role, but didn’t rule out taking the reins.

He said: I have not been contacted by anyone from the club to become a coach.

“When I’m ready to become a coach and I get the opportunity, why not? I will do it maybe in the future.”

Board member Vincent Sowah Odotei also confirmed that no approach had been made to Kingston.

He added: We have not spoken with Laryea Kingston [to serve a role as interim coach] and any such rumours are not true. However, Richard Kingson is our goalkeeping trainer,”

However, it seems Kingston would be a popular choice and has been backed for the job by Hearts of Oak legend Mohammed Polo.

“Laryea has tasted football before so he has the requisite skills and experience to become a good manager," he told Light FM.

“This is an opportunity for him to be successful as a young manager.

'Grinding success at Hearts or Kotoko will certainly make you so let's see what he brings on board.”

Kingston arrived at Tynecastle in January 2007 on loan from Chechen outfit Terek Grozny, and Hearts made the move permanent the following summer for £500,000, agreeing a three-year deal with the midfielder.

The Ghaniasn made 59 appearances for the Jambos over the course of his time in maroon, scoring nine goals and providing four assists.

Kingston was a teammate of current Hearts manager Robbie Neilson, goalkeeper Craig Gordon and defender Christophe Berra.
