Former Hearts and Kilmarnock winger Jose Quitongo on why Muirkirk was his first and last management job

Jose Quitongo was manager of Muirkirk back in 2013 – and he says it will be his last job.

The Angolan star turned out as player/manager for the East Ayrshire side after appearing for a host of Scottish Premiership sides.

Never again will he manage he insists – but he admits it was fun while it lasted.

He said: “One of my pals phoned me and said, ‘Jose, Muirkirk are looking for a manager, do you want to go?’

“So I went to speak to the board and they were happy with it all.

“I signed as a player/manager, it was hard actually.

“I brought in good players, sometimes we played good and the next game we didn’t.

“I know I was player/manager, but I always wanted to play myself, that was my problem!

“I had a good experience, but would I be a manager again? No chance!

“I am just too nice to be a manager, if you want to be a manager you need to shout and go crazy, I can't do that.

“Some people can’t do that, and that’s how it is for me.”

He added: “We had a great bunch of boys when everyone turned up we were amazing.

“At that level it’s tough though because players have other commitments.

“I now understand why managers are always going crazy!

“But despite that I can’t complain, I had a great experience.”
