Former Haryana CM Om Prakash Chautala, 86, takes Class X exam in English language

SIRSA: Proving that it’s never too late to learn, for mer Haryana chief minister and Indian National Lok Dal (INLD) supremo Om Prakash Chautala appeared for the supplementary examination in English language for Class X conducted by the Board of School Education Haryana (BSEH) in Sirsa on Wednesday. As Chautala, 86, has fractured his hand, he was given a writer — a Class IX girl student — to complete his paper. Chautala is the grandfather of Haryana deputy CM Dushyant Chautala.

The former CM, who was convicted in the JBT recruitment scam in 2013 by the CBI court and sentenced to 10 years’ jail, completed his matriculation during his jail term in Tihar but missed the English exam. Later, he appeared for the senior secondary exam under the board’s open examination system for Class XII.

The board announced the results on August 5 without holding examinations due to the Covid crisis and declared Chautala pass. The board, however, withheld his result as he had not appeared in the mandatory language (English) examination in Class X.

For the supplementary examination, Chautala was allotted room number 13 in the Arya Girls’ Senior Secondary school in Sirsa. He emerged from the examination centre smiling but avoided interacting with reporters waiting outside the school. He only said: “I am a student, no comment.”
