It has been well documented at this point that former Halo Studios art director Glenn Israel has made several allegations against Halo Studios leadership. Much of that attention has come from posts made on Israel’s LinkedIn, where he alleged that cronyism had taken place at the studio, the practice of hiring or promoting someone based on personal relationships rather than qualifications, alongside wider misconduct allegations.
Now, in a somewhat follow-up report by Mr. Rebs, who we cover often and whom I recommend checking out on both X (formerly Twitter) and YouTube, Rebs goes into further detail surrounding the alleged cronyism at Halo Studios.
In the report, Rebs claims the current Halo Studios studio art director blocked him on LinkedIn following his initial reporting, which he says led him to uncover more Halo Studios employees allegedly tied to the individual. Rebs goes on to claim that 10 former associates were hired after their arrival at the studio, with eight of them reportedly receiving lead roles.
Separate from Rebs reporting, Israel had previously shared his own concerns surrounding Halo Studios leadership and Microsoft HR on LinkedIn. In one post, Israel outlined a timeline surrounding an alleged Lead Artist hiring process, claiming a preferred candidate had already entered salary negotiations before Halo Studios head Pierre Hintze allegedly intervened and ended discussions, with the role then reportedly being given to a friend and former associate of Halo Studios' current studio art director shortly after.
Following those allegations, Israel stated, “This should matter to you because it is proof that Microsoft cannot guarantee a fair and equitable hiring process.”
Israel also called for outside involvement regarding his complaints, stating: “And so I turn to you – if you (1) care about the stewardship of Halo and would like to see it set right, (2) are concerned about the welfare of developers in an increasingly unhinged industry, or (3) want to see meaningful change in nonsensically and notoriously hostile HR-employee relations, please amplify this message to your networks. Ask for a certified third-party investigation into my complaints against Halo Studios leadership and Microsoft HR. Demand accountability.”
In response to Rebs report, Israel also stated that “his report is nothing short of shocking.”
It is also worth mentioning that, in his report, Rebs claims several former employees reached out to him following his reporting, alleging wider leadership concerns at Halo Studios.
Honestly, it is a bit tiring covering Halo negatively. I love this franchise and want to see it succeed as much as possible, but if the allegations made here are true, then it’s clear something needs to change at Halo Studios in a major way.
