Former golf centre to be bulldozed to make way for 800 new homes

Demolition works are to begin this month on the former Brucefields Family Golf Centre buildings to make way for a new housing project.

Tulloch Homes and Persimmon Homes are to build 800 new homes on the site, which covers 40 acres of land next to Pirnhall and Bannockburn.

The former nine-hole golf course closed five months ago.

Now, Tulloch Homes has revealed that a contract for the demolition work has now been awarded.

The 40 acres of land received planning consent in June for 800 new homes to be built by Tulloch Homes and Persimmon Homes as a key element of the South Stirling Gateway project.

Billy McKay, construction director of Tulloch Homes, said: ”We are preparing advanced plans with a view to construction beginning on site early next year. The buildings need to be levelled to clear the way and this work will begin in the next fortnight.

“We anticipate the process being completed in around four weeks.

“The planning permission was granted subject to a Section 75 agreement being reached with Stirling Council. We are looking to conclude this agreement at an early date to allow progress to be made on providing much-needed new homes for the area.”

He added: “This is a £100 million homes development on land which has been zoned for housing in the Local Plan for some years and it will include some 200 affordable homes for families in the area.

“In addition to road improvements, landscaping of public spaces and footpaths will be carried out. Space has been earmarked for a public driving range or golf facility to be created in future.”

In July, the Observer told how police and council officers were called in to move on a traveller community that had been occupying a former golf centre.

Officers were involved in a heated exchange with the travellers who occupied the site for around two weeks.

After negotiations, an agreement was reached for the families to move on.
