Former Giant Tommy Davis killed in motorcycle crash

Former New York Giants defensive end Tommy Davis, who spent a brief amount of time with the team in 2007 when they defeated the New England Patriots in Super Bowl XLII, has passed away at the age of 37.

Davis died of injuries sustained during a motorcycle crash last Thursday.

“We are shocked and saddened to learn of the tragic death of one of our Tar Heel brothers, Tommy Davis. The Carolina Football Family extends its deepest condolences to Tommy’s family and friends,” North Carolina said in a statement.

Davis was originally signed by the New Orleans Saints as an undrafted free agent out of North Carolina in 2007, but quickly found his way to the Giants and then the Washington Redskins, where he’d remain through the 2008 season.

Following his professional football career, Davis returned to UNC as a graduate assistant from 2011-2012 and went on to serve as the defensive line coach at Saint Joseph’s (IN) in 2013.

Davis holds the UNC record for bench press (460 lbs.), power clean (363), and squat (640) by a defensive end.

Once a Giant, always a Giant.
