Former Georgia DB signs contract with Los Angeles Chargers

Former Georgia Bulldogs cornerback Mark Webb has signed his rookie NFL contract with the Los Angeles Chargers. The Chargers recently signed several rookies.

Webb may play safety or cornerback for Los Angeles. The Chargers drafted Webb with the 241st pick (seventh round) of the 2021 NFL draft.

Now, Webb will focus on making the Charger’s roster. Webb’s contract is not guaranteed, so he will have to make the team to begin to earn his four-year, $3.58 million deal.

Mark Webb will battle safeties Ben DeLuca and Alohi Gilman to earn depth spots behind projected starters Derwin James and Nasir Adderley. Webb will likely have a role on special teams and may be one injury away from seeing playing time on defense.

Webb is from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, and played high school football for Archbishop Wood High School. Webb recorded 21 total tackles throughout the 2021 college football season and intercepted a key fourth-down pass against Auburn.

Webb brings versatility and athleticism to the Los Angeles secondary. Webb tested well ahead of the NFL draft and has experience playing the nickel back or STAR position. Webb has the build to play as a undersized linebacker. He is a good tackler, who played a lot throughout his final three seasons at the University of Georgia.
