Former Gateshead car dealership could be transformed into a drive-thru Starbucks

An abandoned Gateshead car dealership could get a new lease of life as a drive-thru coffee shop.

Cliff Court Developments are behind plans to transform the former Evans Halshaw Vauxhall dealership in Blaydon into two commercial units, with interest from Seattle’s most well-known coffeehouse, Starbucks.

The developer has lodged plans with Gateshead Council to convert the Bridge Street former showroom into two separate drive-thru units.

If it goes ahead the building will be extended to accommodate one of the units.

The firm is currently in talks with the coffee giant in a bid to sign it up for one of the units.

Parking will be no problem for coffee fans as the scheme includes 42 car parking spaces, including two accessible spaces and two electric vehicle charging spaces.

The developer claims the project will turn the disused site into a "new hub for the Blaydon community" as well as bringing new jobs to the area.

John Taylor, regeneration specialist at Cliff Court Developments, said: “We are excited to start work on regenerating the vacant Evans Halshaw Vauxhall dealership.

“The plan is to transform the dealership into two separate drive-thru, commercial units and change the outside showroom into a fully functional car park with some electric vehicle charging points.

“Starbucks is a well-known name that will bring some great benefits to the local economy through job creation, if all goes to plan.”
