Former fugitive is 10th and final member of Scotland's top crime gang to be jailed

A former fugitive yesterday became the 10th and final member of a sophisticated crime gang to be jailed.

Paul Scott, 47, provided technical expertise in counter-surveillance and concealment to the mob, who trafficked cocaine.

The crook fled to Europe after being freed on bail in December 2016.

He was snared in Spain last November and was yesterday jailed for seven years.

Scott admitted being involved in serious organised crime between December 2015 and December 2016.

In January last year, his former accomplices David Sell, Barry O’Neil, Anthony Woods, Francis Mulligan, Mark Richardson, Gerard Docherty, Steven McArdle, Michael Bowman and Martyn Fitzsimmons were jailed for a total of 87 years.

The gang were convicted over their dealings in drugs, firearms, serious violence and dirty money.

At the High Court in Edinburgh, judge Lord Beckett said Scott was involved in facilitating “crime on a grand scale”.

Advocate depute Alex Prentice QC said Scott’s role was in connection with “technical and counter-surveillance equipment” and encrypted devices used by the gang.

Gordon Jackson QC, defending, said Scott, of Rutherglen, near Glasgow, “was never directly involved in the drug trade”, adding: “He has a great deal of regret that he ever got involved.”
