A former footballer has been killed after being struck by lightning in a freak accident on a beach in the US.
Garry Perks, originally from Scotland, was hit directly by the powerful bolt at around 1pm on Sunday, July 21 at Clearwater Beach, near Tampa in Florida.
The 32-year-old, from Tain in Ross-shire, went into cardiac arrest and was rushed to hospital, reports the Daily Record.
The former Highland League footballer, who played for Brora Rangers and Tain Thistle, died on Wednesday.
Local media reports say he was one of eight people hurt in the lightning strike near Garry’s home in neighbouring New Port Richey.

The group were at the beach when a storm started to head towards them with lifeguards ordering everyone out of the water.
Garry was packing up his stuff and getting ready to leave the beach when lightning struck.
A witness told NBC affiliate that the strike "sounded like a bomb had gone off."
The other people involved are not thought to have sustained life-threatening injuries.
Devastated Scottish and American pals have since left tributes online to Garry, describing him as “such a kind person”.
Justin Correa said: “Garry Perks Rest In Peace brother. You were such a kind person. God bless you.

“My tears flow for you my friend. Till we meet again.”
North of Scotland Football Annual tweeted: “Thoughts with the family and close friends of former Brora Rangers and Tain Thistle player Garry Perks, who sadly passed away this week.
“Gone way too soon and shall be missed and fondly remembered by many.”
And Brian MacRitchie wrote: “Devastated. Thoughts with all friends and family. Will be hugely missed.
“A great guy from a great family and a best mate to many. RIP mate.”
Sam Mackay added: “Sleep easy Gaz. One in a million.”
Clearwater Police said Garry moved to Florida from Scotland about 10 years ago.
