Former football grounds in Springburn earmarked for 84 flats

The former grounds of a north Glasgow junior football club is to be turned into flats.

Plans have been drawn up for the development at the former home of Petershill Juniors FC on Southloch Street in Springburn.

The club moved to a new stadium built as part of a community leisure development on a nearby site in 2007.

Historically the site has been used for residential purposes, between 1843 and 1941, before it was redeveloped into the football ground.

Merchant Homes Ltd and Advance Construction (Scotland) Ltd have started a pre-application consultation period over the proposal for the land.

The site would hold 84 flats, spread over four blocks and four storeys.

Designs submitted for the public consultation state: "The properties will be for social rent with low car ownership.

“The site is located in a highly accessible inner urban area within walking distance of many amenities and public transport links.”

A previous proposal to develop flats on the land was submitted by North Glasgow Housing Association in 2010.

The public are invited to give their opinion on the proposals before they go before Glasgow City Counci l.
