Former Florida teammates Jachai Polite, Marcus Maye reunited with Jets

Jets third-round pick Jachai Polite won’t have a hard time making friends with his new team.

Polite has a connection with New York safety Marcus Maye, as the two were teammates at the University of Florida during Polite’s freshman season. Maye and Polite spent only one season playing together, but Maye is thrilled about his old friend getting picked by the Jets.

Polite was arguably one of the best pass rushers in this year’s draft. However, his draft stock fell because of some red flags. He’s had some off-the-field issues with his maturity and his desire to play. At Florida, Polite had 78 total tackles, 15 sacks, and eight forced fumbles. He was dominant as a junior with 11 sacks and six forced fumbles.

It’s beneficial for Polite to know someone on the Jets. Maye can take him under his wing and show him how New York does business. Not only can he do that, but Maye can get Polite familiarized with the rest of the team. Getting along in the locker room is one of the most important aspects of a successful football team, one that is sometimes tough for rookies.

With Maye by his side once, that shouldn’t be too much of an issue for Polite.
