Former Florida Gator throws shoe, gets penalty

Former Florida Gators defensive end Carlos Dunlap threw a shoe during the fourth quarter of an NFL game. Dunlap, who plays for the Seattle Seahawks, threw the shoe of a Green Bay Packers offensive lineman right in front of a pair of officials.

Dunlap’s shoe throw proved costly. Green Bay was facing third-and-short, but Dunlap’s unsportsmanlike conduct penalty gave Aaron Rodgers and the Packers a fresh set of downs.

The Packers eventually scored a touchdown on the drive to go up 10-0. Green Bay ended up winning 17-0. Carlos Dunlap’s penalty is a familiar sight for Florida Gator fans:

A Florida defensive back threw a shoe and drew an unsportsmanlike conduct penalty against LSU in 2020. The penalty helped LSU score a game-winning field goal and crushed Florida’s College Football Playoff hopes.

Dan Mullen and Florida are 2-8 in their last 10 games against Power Five opponents since the shoe throw.
