Panthit Mahapaurya, stepson of former finance minister Korn Chatikavanij, appeared in Bangkok South Criminal Court on Friday after being arrested for alleged possession of 0.92 grams of cocaine early on Thursday.
Police from the Thong Lor station asked the court to allow his detention for a further period of 12 days.
Media reported that the 27-year-old man was arrested in a taxi at a police checkpoint on Soi Sukhumvit 19 early on Thursday morning after the illicit drug and two plastic tubes were found in his pocket.
The man obtained the drug from a close friend at a restaurant. He used some of it in the toilet and kept the rest for use at home, it was reported.
The hearing was proceeding.
