Former favourite makes honest admission as Nottingham Forest show steady progress

Chris Cohen’s verdict

Former Nottingham Forest favourite Chris Cohen has admitted that Luton ‘rode their luck’ at times during the 1-0 win at the City Ground on Tuesday night.

The retired midfielder is now a first-team coach at Kenilworth Road and saw his team pick all three points over the Reds in the Championship clash.

Forest dominated the first half of the encounter, but were unable to take the lead and were punished when Ryan Tunicliffe scored the winning goal in the second half.

After the game, Cohen gave his honest assessment.

"We were dogged, the keeper [Simon Sluga] was brilliant when he needed to be and then, in front of that, everyone had a really good game.

Paul Hart on how Luton changed their approach against Forest at half time

“There wasn’t one person you could look at from the 90 minutes or the subs that came on that played below-par.

“I thought the boys did everything they could to get a result, at times in the first half we rode our luck a little bit without being under severe pressure but lots of crosses in our box and Glenn Murray had a few chances.

Luton talking points

It was a disappointing evening at the City Ground for Forest as the Reds were made to pay for not taking their chances.

They were punished in the second half when Luton took the lead, with Forest unable to find the equaliser in the final part of the game.

It has been the story of the season for the Reds, who registered 19 shots on goal during the match, but only four of them efforts were on target.

But the performance also shows the steady progress of the team under Chris Hughton as Forest look to climb the Championship table.

End of season chances

The result against leaves the Reds in 17th place in the table, 11 points clear of the bottom three clubs, although third from bottom Rotherham United do have three games in hand over Forest due to various suspensions.

The situation in the table is looking a lot better for Forest than when Hughton first took over, with the Reds climbing out and away from the relegation zone.

According to FiveThirtyEight , Forest have just a three percent chance of relegation from the Championship at the end of the season, although that has increased from two percent this time last week.
