Former Falcons RB Devonta Freeman signs with Bills practice squad

The Atlanta Falcons’ 2020 season is over, but the team’s former starting running back, Devonta Freeman, could be playing in the divisional round next weekend. Freeman was released by the Falcons during the offeason and eventually signed with the New York Giants for an uninspiring five-game stint.

Despite rushing for 172 yards on 54 carries (3.2 yards per attempt), with one touchdown in New York, Freeman has been signed to the Buffalo Bills practice squad on Tuesday, per NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport.

Freeman looks like a depth signing for the Bills, who lost rookie Zack Moss for the year in their wild-card win over the Colts. The 28-year-old Freeman isn’t as effective as he was a few seasons ago, but he’s a versatile back that can do a little bit of everything.

For Buffalo, who relied heavily on quarterback Josh Allen to run the ball last weekend, Freeman makes a lot of sense. We’ll see if he get activated before the Bills’ divisional matchup against the Baltimore Ravens.
