Former Falcons kicker Matt Bryant tweets his age doesn’t matter

The Falcons moved on from starting kicker Matt Bryant after the 2018 season. However, Giorgio Tavecchio’s performance thus far this preseason has many Atlanta fans wondering if the team made a big mistake.

After Tavecchio missed another kick last week against Washington, the Falcons finally decided to act. The new guy they brought in is not named Matt Bryant though and he’s had plenty of his own struggles in recent years. Blair Walsh has been signed to challenge Tavecchio, but he hasn’t impressed either — missing a reported four of nine field goals at practice earlier this week.

Despite his age (44 years old), Bryant is still probably a better kicker than either Walsh or Tavecchio. The Falcons even reportedly discussed re-signing the veteran, but ultimately decided against it.

Bryant is paying close attention to the situation, tweeting a response to a comment about his age earlier this week.

Bryant seems just as confused as fans regarding Atlanta’s preference for someone younger over sticking with the better kicker.

As much as it makes sense to think about the future, it’s a unique position where some players are able to thrive much longer. Adam Vinatieri is still going strong at 46 years old, for one.
