Former Fair City star Jenny Dixon admits husband tells her to go to sleep when she gets too giddy

Former Fair City star Jenny Dixon has lifted the lid on married life, admitting her husband has to tell her to go to sleep when she gets too giddy.

This weekend marks one year since she tied the knot with Limerick politician Tom Neville in one of the biggest celebrity weddings in Ireland in 2019.

And Jenny says they’ve been given a crash course on married life thanks to Covid-19 and the lockdown.

She told the Irish Sunday Mirror: “We are getting used to using the terms ‘husband’ and ‘wife’ but we still have the same way of looking at each other, the same banter and the same type of fun relationship.

“We still have moments of giddiness and moments where Tom tells me to go to sleep when I am hyper going to bed. I would like to say that we have matured but not so much.”

Spending so much time together can often have its pitfalls too and couples have been discovering new quirks or traits about their other halves.

For Jenny, having some “quiet time” and escaping with some tea and chocolate is her sanctuary.

She explained: “I was saying to him during the week that he is my husband, my walking partner and even my co-worker sometimes.

“I have incorporated this ‘quiet time’ in our evening where I can read my book or watch my Netflix show with some pick n’ mix and a cup of camomile tea.

“Or sometimes we will go for walks separately and that time to ourselves is so important.

“Even though you are married, you are still growing as individuals and life is more difficult in lockdown.”

Tom was not returned to the Dail in the general election and Jenny said that he has now turned his attention to his other big passion, the arts.

She said: “He has always incorporated the arts into his politics and he championed that industry for how it aided mental health and self development.

“His film with Pat McDonnell from Father Ted is being screened in the Galway Film Fleadh and he has been talking with some of the acting coaches he trained with in Australia as well as some of agents.

“He is definitely grateful to have that and I have been very impressed by him. Some people might have been very deflated whereas he went into a mode of focusing on fitness and going back to his core of music and acting.”

Recalling her big day, Jenny said that some of the moments she shared with her dad were her highlights.

She said: “I had to tell my dad to stop laughing halfway up the aisle and next of all things got very real when I saw Tom standing at the altar.

“Day two was beautiful as well as there was a father/daughter dance that somebody recorded on their phone.”
