Former Fair City star Aoibhin Garrihy tells hilarious story of how her husband fainted when she went into labour

Former Fair City star Aoibhin Garrihy has told of how her husband ended up falling unconscious after she went into labour.

The Irish actress told the hilarious story about her husband John's unfortunate accident which saw hi faint while she was giving birth to her second child Liobhan last year.

Speaking on her sister Doireann on her podcast The Laughs Of Your Life she said:“Last November, in labour, the baby was coming, I was in the late stages of labour and John was with me and I had a really bad pain in my back.”

“And I was sitting on the edge of my bed, and I just wanted him to kind of create resistance.”

She then asked her husband to pull on her arms so she could try and stretch out but as she did, it all got too much for John.

“I had my eyes closed and I just asked him to do that, and I felt a thump on my lap and I opened my eyes and he had fainted,” she went on.

“And he was only there for a split second, because the midwives in fairness to them just grabbed him and swept him away because they knew it would be really really bad for me.”

The mum was then left with the midwives who assured her they had seen it all before, while John was taken to another room and given a sugary tea.

“So he was gone then, and one midwife stayed with me and she was like, ‘You’re okay, Aoibhin I’m here.’

And I just said to her, ‘He’s never ever going to live this down and I’m going to tell everyone I meet because like men are just made of different stuff.'”

“They [the nurses] said it happens all the time, like they’re probably used to it, but what a disaster,” she added.

Despite John spending some time unconscious he managed to make it back to see the birth of his baby girl.

Aoibhin's story comes as her sister Ailbhe announced that she is pregnant with her first baby.

Taking to Instagram the Dublin woman shared the exciting news with her 80,000 followers.

Posting a picture showing off her baby bump a vibrant Ailbhe revealed to her followers that she is five months pregnant writing: "Our happy news."
