Former Everton striker Richarlison leaves pitch in tears as Tottenham Hotspur handed injury blow

Tottenham Hotspur have been dealt a blow with former Everton star Richarlison suffering an injury.

The ex-Blues striker was included in Spurs’ starting line-up for their Premier League clash away at Southampton. However, his outing came to an early end.

Just three minutes into the contest at St Mary’s, Richarlison left the pitch after suffering an injury. The Brazilian needed to be comforted by team-mates Harry Kane and Son Heung-Min as he was substituted and replaced by Dejan Kulusevski.

The 25-year-old left Goodison Park after the Blues agreed a £60 million deal for his services back in summer.

He has made 18 Premier League appearances for Tottenham since his move to North London, but is yet to find the back of the net in the top flight. Richarlison’s two goals for the club came in a Champions League win over Marseille last September.

It remains to be seen whether he will be available for the next Spurs game - which comes against Everton at Goodison Park immediately after the international break.

The injury will be a blow to Tottenham’s chances of a top four finish, which may also affect Liverpool. The Reds are locked in a battle with a host of clubs, including Spurs, for a place in the Premier League’s top four.

Liverpool went into Saturday’s round of fixtures six points behind fourth-placed Tottenham with a game in hand. Due to Fulham being in FA Cup action, the Reds will have two games in hand by the end of the weekend.
