Former Everton player Royston Drenthe declared bankrupt after failed moves into music and acting

Former Everton winger Royston Drenthe has been declared bankrupt by a court in the Netherlands.

A report in the Daily Mail says the ruling was passed in Breda on Tuesday with the 33-year-old not present at the hearing.

Drenthe, who previously stated that he had lost £3.2million from his playing days following failed moves into rap music and acting, insisted that he expects the decision will not be final, explaining that his lawyer was on holiday when the verdict was handed down.

In 2016, the player who had been a €14million signing for Real Madrid nine years earlier, moved into music under the name Roya2Faces.

Although Drenthe returned to the pitch with home city club Sparta Rotterdam in 2018 and now plays for third tier outfit Kozakken Boys, in March this year he attempted to break into acting, appearing in the television crime drama Mocro Maffia.

Following the verdict, he told voetbalzone: “I don't know the ins and outs and I don't know exactly what's going on, but if this is what I think it is, it's not that important.

“I'm always under a magnifying glass, but it will be resolved as it should.”

Drenthe joined Everton on loan for the 2011/12 season after they took on the last year of his contract at the Bernabeu.

He made 28 appearances for the Blues, scoring four goals, but suffered disciplinary problems under David Moyes and the manager omitted him from his squad for their FA Cup semi-final against Liverpool at Wembley.
