Former Everton boss Walter Smith is recovering in hospital following an operation earlier this week.
Smith, who managed the Blues between 1998-2002, had the procedure on Monday and remains in hospital.
Glasgow Rangers, whom Smith managed between 1991-1998, released a short statement this evening after concerning rumours had circulated relating to Smith's health.
It read: "Rangers Football Club can confirm Walter Smith had an operation on Monday and he is currently recovering in hospital.
“His family have requested privacy at this time.”
Smith took charge of 168 games as Everton manager, taking over from Howard Kendall in the summer of 1998.
He won 53 of those games before leaving the club in March 2002. He went on to manage the Scottish national team before having a second spell with Rangers in the SPL.
