Former Everton manager David Moyes leads West Ham to Conference League glory

Former Everton manager David Moyes won his first major honour as West Ham United beat Fiorentina in dramatic fashion in the UEFA Europa Conference League.

Jarrod Bowen netted just two minutes of normal time remaining to spark wild scenes in Prague asthe Hammers fans went into raptures with the Scottish tactician running down the touchline. The east London side lead in the final as Lucas Paqueta sent Pietro Terracciano the wrong way.

Giacomo Bonaventura equalised just minutes later and with the game destined for extra-time, the former Hull City winger slid past the despairing La Viola shot-stopper after being slid through by Lucas Paqueta.

Luka Jovic scrambled the ball home in the first-half but after VAR chalked the goal off. Five minutes were added at the end of the second-half with the referee playing almost double that but the wait was finally over for West Ham as they won their first piece of silverware since 1980.

It was a disappointing Premier League campaign for West Ham as they found themselves in a relegation battle going into the dying embers of the season. At stages of the season, the former Blues tactician faced immense scrutiny over his future at the London Stadium but the hierarchy maintained their trust and have reaped the rewards.

With the distraction of the Europa Conference League, they overcame AEK Larnaca, Gent and AZ Alkmaar in the knockout rounds. The win means they qualify for the Europa League.

It's the second piece of silverware for Moyes after winning the Community Shield with Manchester United and it was the perfect evening as his 87-year-old father watched on.
