Former Everton Director of Football Steve Walsh lands new MLS job

Former Everton Director of Football Steve Walsh has been appointed as the new 'special advisor' of newly-formed MLS club Charlotte, who are expected to begin playing their trade next year.

Walsh joined Everton from Leicester City in 2016 having been deemed as the brains behind their spectacular Premier League triumph back in the 2015/16 season, as his recruitment of talent proved vital in the Foxes' success.

But after spending north of £100m under his watch in the summer of 2018, Everton failed to prove their worth off the back of that big-money summer spend, which saw the club sign the likes of Jordan Pickford, Michael Keane and Gylfi Sigurdsson for big-money fees.

Walsh was shown the door at Goodison Park in May 2018, the exact same day as former manager Sam Allardyce was also let go by the Toffees' board, with the club turning to PSV transfer chief Marcel Brands to oversee the club's recruitment drive.

Now, though, Walsh has rediscovered his route back into football, taking on the role as 'special advisor' at MLS team Charlotte, who plan to enter the USA's top-tier of professional football next year.

The club was only founded back in mid-December and they already have a stadium built, which can house over 75,000 supporters.

Charlotte are part of a new MLS expansion franchise, which will launch next year.
