Former Everton and Super League boss Robert Elstone joins PwC

The former boss of Everton and Super League Rugby has joined PricewaterhouseCoopers where he will act as a senior advisor to the sports business advisory.

Robert Elstone joins PwC from Super League, where as executive chairman, he played an important role in securing its independence, restructure and rebrand.

His time in charge saw a "significant growth" in both TV audiences and commercial revenues, and attracted a substantial offer of private equity investment. He stood down in March after less than three years in the role.

Prior to joining Super League, Mr Elstone spent 13 years at Everton Football Club, the majority as chief executive.

He also held a senior role at Sky Sports, managing the broadcaster’s commercial and media interests in four Premier League clubs, and has considerable experience advising sports organisations.

Mr Elstone said: “I am excited to join PwC at a time when its sports business is growing from strength to strength.

"I look forward to helping the firm’s clients capitalise on the stream of emerging opportunities being generated by this dynamic industry.”

PwC said Mr Elstone will support the growth of the sports practice and provide industry knowledge and experience - working on a part-time basis.

His 25 years of experience in the sports industry combined with PwC’s core capabilities will "enable the firm’s sports business advisory team to create further value for its sports sector clients".

Clive Reeves, strategy director and UK sports lead at PwC, said: “We are pleased to have Robert joining our sports business team. His vast knowledge and practical experience will add another dimension to our team and ensure we are better equipped to solve our clients’ key challenges.”

David Trunkfield, strategy partner, said: “We are delighted to welcome Robert to our sports business team as we look to grow our practice.

"His sports leadership experience and deep understanding of the sports sector will be an invaluable asset to us and our clients.”
