Former Liverpool centre-back Daniel Agger has been named head coach of Danish First Division outfit HB Koge with ex-Everton defender Lars Jacobsen as his assistant.
Jacobsen, 41, made 13 appearances for Everton in his sole season with the club under David Moyes, when he also appeared as a substitute in the FA Cup final defeat to Chelsea in 2009.
He subsequently went on to represent Blackburn Rovers and West Ham United in the Premier League before spells with FC Copenhagen and Guingamp. Jacobsen retired in 2016 with 81 international caps for Denmark.
Agger, who also retired in 2016 after returning to boyhood club Brondby following an eight-season spell with Liverpool, has taken his first job in club management.
He said: "The idea of returning to a new role in the football industry and testing oneself has matured in recent years. HB Køge is the perfect place for me to start.
"The club rests on healthy values and has a solid foundation. The crucial thing for me is that I personally know several of those who run HB Køge in everyday life.
"I am very much looking forward to getting started - and yes, I look forward to coming under pressure again."
Jacobsen added: "Daniel and I have talked for several years about us doing something together. Now we have to see if our ideas can bear. We have met many talented coaches, and we will bring those experiences into play in HB Koge.
"My relationship with Daniel has many layers, but first and foremost it is about loyalty. Loyalty is also defined so that we can discuss football and management without filter.
"We know what we want and can do, but it is also important to say that we do not imagine that we are world champions. We will make mistakes along the way, no doubt."
Agger and Jacobsen have signed deals until 2024 with director Per Rud admitting the club are 'proud' to have landed the coaching duo, with their mission statement to lead Koge into the Danish Super League.
Rud said: “It obliges us as a club and as a city that Daniel and Lars have chosen HB Køge to start their coaching career. We have had many good conversations over the last month, where the dialogue has gone from curiosity to genuine interest.
"I am proud that they believe in what we are doing, and it is also a huge recognition of the commitment that our owner Capelli Sport has shown."
