Former Aston Villa striker Gabriel Agbonlahor feels that Newcastle United should move for Chelsea's Ross Barkley this summer.
Barkley spent last season on loan with Villa and got off to a brilliant start during the opening weeks, forming a formidable partnership in midfield with creative maestro Jack Grealish.
The Englishman was instrumental in Villa's incredible 7-2 victory over Liverpool and their 3-0 defeat of Arsenal.
However, his season was derailed in November after picking up a nasty hamstring injury that kept him on the sidelines for two months.
Upon his return to full fitness, Barkley struggled to replicate the same form he had shown before Christmas and found himself on the bench in the latter part of the campaign as Villa decided against signing him on a permanent basis.
That means the 27-year-old will return to Chelsea next month and former England frontman Gabriel Agbonlahor has urged Newcastle to bring Barkley to St James' Park this summer
"I think it would be a good fit. Steve Bruce would get the best out of him", he told Football Insider.
"Ross Barkley needs to go somewhere now, he’s at a crossroads in his career, he’s 28. He needs to go somewhere and have a really good season, not just a few months like he did at Villa.
"It could be the perfect move for him to go play week in, week out."
Given the attacking midfielders that Thomas Tuchel has at his disposal at Stamford Bridge, it is likely that Barkley will be moved on this summer.
He has made 86 appearances for the Blues since joining from Everton in January 2018, registering 11 goals and 11 assists.
