Former employee and Cramlington company reach settlement in 'unfair dismissal' case

A former employee and a North East firm have reached a financial settlement following a claim of unfair dismissal.

Triple Shield Property Maintenance, based in Cramlington, Northumberland, was defending itself against a claim of unfair dismissal brought by David Snowball, who was employed by them as a painter and handyman.

Mr Snowball, 54, alleged he was unfairly dismissed after five years at the company for making whistleblowing claims.

He alleged that employees were asked to work while claiming cash from the Government's furlough scheme and promised they would be paid when the scheme ended.

On Monday, an employment tribunal in Newcastle heard that Triple Shield accepted Mr Snowball had made "protected disclosures", but denied that his claims were true and said they were not the reason he was let go.

However on Tuesday, both parties came to an agreement and the unfair dismissal claims were withdrawn.

Employment Judge Morris explained that the case would be dismissed as a settlement had been agreed. The settlement figure was not disclosed in court.

Matthew Sutton, representing Triple Shield, said: "Our client wishes to include that there's no admission of liability on their behalf."

Judge Morris said the terms of the agreement would remain confidential between the parties and the claims would be withdrawn.

He added: "I'm happy to include that there's no admission of liability.

"The terms of the agreement have been agreed today and payment must be made by March 10."

The official judgement will be processed and sent to both parties in due course.
