Former East Kilbride FC coach applies for job at East Kilbride Thistle

Former East Kilbride FC coach Ross Wilson is in the running to become the next manager of junior side East Kilbride Thistle.

Wilson was Billy Ogilvie's assistant during his first season season in the Lowland League in 2014/15 and could now take charge of the Junior team across town.

The News understands Wilson is one of a handful of applicants to be interviewed this week, with the West Region One outfit expected to appoint their new boss at the start of next week.

Since leaving East Kilbride in 2015, Wilson has been assistant manager at fellow Lowland League side BSC Glasgow and was boss of West Region Championships side Kello Rovers between 2016-17.

His biggest job to date came during an ill-fated five-month spell in charge of Junior giants Irvine Meadow in 2017. He was sacked after 13 games in charge following a fallout with the club heirarchy. He won six times during his stay at Meadow Park.

This season he has been coaching at Premier side Beith Juniors, having taken on the role in January. Beith are currently fourth in the West Region Premiership with three games to play.

It's also understood that Amateur boss Gary Hamilton, formerly of Stewarton United and East Kilbride YM, is among the other main contenders for the job.

The Jags have been on the hunt for a new manager since interim bosses Steven McClung and Colin Mitchell resigned from the club on May 4, claiming their positions were already being offered elsewhere for next season. They were put in temporary charge following the departure of Alan Paterson and Billy Dolan for Cambuslang Rangers in February.

Earlier this week Jags director Peter Kelsall revealed the club would be able to pay players for the first time in almost a decade.

He said: "We’ve got a lot of plans for next season and we are hoping to have some money to support the new manager for players.

“We haven’t paid players in the seven years I’ve been here and that has held us back, but we are now in a position where we will be able to offer something.

“Hopefully we can attract players to the club and it will enable us to reach a higher position in the leagues."
