Former Eagles RB Wendell Smallwood claimed off waivers by Redskins

The NFL is a soap opera and theater at it’s finest, so you could imagine the reaction from fans around the area if Wendell Smallwood somehow ran wild all over the Eagles? The former Philadelphia running back has landed on his feet and will be back at the Linc next Sunday, as the Redskins have claimed Smallwood off of waivers.

Over the last three seasons, Smallwood carried the ball 211 times for 850 yards and five touchdowns — the most of any Eagles running back over that time period — but 19 running backs in the NFL secured those numbers last season alone.

With the acquisition of Jordan Howard and the Eagles drafting Miles Sanders, the writing was on the wall for Smallwood, who’ll likely land on another roster.
