Former Dundalk player Andy Boyle released from Preston North End

Former Dundalk defender Andy Boyle has been released from Preston North End.

The 28-year-old has struggled to nail down a regular place for himself at Deepdale and has had three spells on loan at Doncaster Rovers, Dundee and most recently Ross County.

He helped County to promotion to the SPFL this season and the Scottish side may offer him a full-time deal.

In a statement confirming the departure of six players, Preston said: "Preston North End would like to thank all the departing players for their effort and commitment to the club during their time at Deepdale and wish them all the very best in their future careers."

Meanwhile, Preston have confirmed ex Shamrock Rovers striker Graham Burke will return from his loan at Gillingham for pre-season.

Burke earned two caps for the Republic of Ireland last year before moving to Deepdale.

He came off the bench for his senior international debut in a friendly against France in Paris on May 28 before finding the net against the USA in Dublin a number of days later.
