Former Dublin Fianna Fail TD John Curran's hilarious encounter with 'Ireland's dumbest squirrel'

The world has been inundated with stories of nature taking over as the coronavirus pandemic has forced people to stay indoors.

From dolphins appearing on the coast of Mumbai or the usually grimy canals in Venice running clear or normally smog-filled skies in China turning in blue- nature does seem to be taking back control.

While we haven't had any dolphins spotted in the Liffey yet, one former Fianna Fail TD had an interesting encounter with a particularly weird looking squirrel this morning.

Now some might say it even looked more like a ferret, but hey, we are not here to judge!

Anyway, Clondalkin man John Curran was out on a walk with his dog in Corkagh Park when "Ireland's dumbest squirrel" started following them.

Mr Curran and his dog tried desperately to evade it but the ferret, known for being a playful and mischievous animal, made it hard for them to weasel out of the encounter.

Mr Curran took to social media to complain: "Out for a walk in Corkagh Park this morning with the dog when Ireland’s dumbest squirrel started to follow us.

"The dog was on the lead so despite her best efforts she didn’t have squirrel breakfast but it took a lot of persuasion to get the squirrel to stop following us."

Luckily he managed to evade the strange "squirrel" in the end.

We managed to ferret out a little more information about this weird wildlife encounter.

Clondalkin Animal Aid confirmed that "Ireland's dumbest squirrel" was indeed a ferret.

So while Mumbai has its dolphins, Venice its clear canals, and China its blue skies, we have good ol' ferrets taking back control!
