Former Dolphins tight end Sims will reportedly be cut by Chicago

The hits just keep coming for former Miami Dolphin tight ends. A week after Charles Clay was cut from the Buffalo Bills, it has been reported that the Chicago Bears are planning to part ways with tight end Dion Sims.

Sims, who was a 4th-round pick (103rd overall) for the Dolphins in 2013, had developed into a nifty contributor for Miami before the Bears came calling.

Sims’ best career season came in 2016, when he caught 26 passes for 256 yards and 4 touchdowns despite being regarded primarily as a blocking tight end out of Michigan State.

After that season, Sims inked a 3-year, $18M contract to play for the Bears but caught just 17 passes for 189 yards and 1 score in 22 games over the last two seasons.

Chicago will save $6M against the salary cap in 2019 as a result of the reported move.
