Former Dolphins tight end Julius Thomas helping concussion study

Former Miami Dolphins tight end Julius Thomas has moved on to some big things after walking away from the NFL. Thomas, who last played in 2017, decided to go back to school in pursuit of a PhD last summer.

His pursuits have led him back to South Florida, where Thomas played for one season in 2017 for the Dolphins. Now? Thomas will help lead a concussion study at Nova Southeastern, focused on evaluating current and former football, soccer and MMA athletes.

Thomas’ shift into the next phase of his life, as he wrote when announcing he was going back to school in August of 2018, featured no sudden moment of clarity. Instead, he suggested his growth as a person facilitated this change.

Thomas’ journey after football continues to blaze forward in the South Florida region and he now hopes his contributions off the field can surpass his accolades on it — where Thomas was a two-time Pro Bowler and scored 36 career touchdowns.
