DAVIE, Fla. _ Jonathan Martin, the former Miami Dolphins offensive tackle who was the subject of a bullying scandal in 2013 and the ensuing Wells Report in 2014, is expected to surrender to authorities in Los Angeles in connection to five criminal charges, according to a Los Angeles Times report.
A Los Angeles police spokesman told the L.A. Times on Monday they are "talking" with Martin's attorney. A warrant has been issued for Martin's arrest.
According to the report, Martin has been charged with five crimes _ four felony counts of making criminal threats and a misdemeanor count of carrying a loaded firearm in public _ and they are believed to be a result of a disturbing Instagram post on his account that pictured a shotgun with "#MiamiDolphins" on the handle and "#HarvardWestlake" on the barrel.
The post read, "When you're a bully victim & a coward, your options are suicide, or revenge."
It also had the Twitter handles of three people, including former Dolphins guard Richie Incognito and center Mike Pouncey.
In 2013, Martin, while playing for the Dolphins, claimed he was bullied by teammates and eventually left the team.
Incognito and Pouncey, along with guard John Jerry, were found in the Wells Report, the investigation commissioned by the NFL, to have been the main instigators of Martin's bullying.
The disturbing Instagram post came Feb. 23, about a week after the Feb. 14 shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland in which 17 were killed.
Harvard Westlake, Martin's high school in California, was shut down after the post was discovered.
Martin, a 2012 second-round pick by the Dolphins, was charged with his crimes on March 13.
