Former Dolphins OL Isaac Asiata retires

Former Miami Dolphins offensive lineman Isaac Asiata has announced he his hanging up his pads and moving on to the next chapter of his life. The offensive guard was cut by the Dolphins earlier this spring after two uneventful years with the organization — time spent riding the bench despite the team’s dire need for interior offensive linemen under Adam Gase.

Asiata would find an opportunity with the Buffalo Bills this summer but just a few short weeks later, the announcement has come down that Asiata is officially retiring.

Asiata cites mental health struggles as a key contributor to his struggles in the NFL, openly discussing the anxiety and pressure he put on himself to avoid becoming “just another guy who couldn’t cut it in the league”.

As a former 5th-round selection, Asiata doesn’t need to stress the perception of being an NFL Draft bust — the hit rate in this area of the draft is quite low and Asiata, despite his fears, is in the vast majority. The story ends for Asiata in the NFL after his first week of camp with the Bills as he recognizes his heart is no longer in the game as it once was.

Join us in wishing Isaac well as he moves on to the next chapter of his life!
