Former Dolphins offensive lineman Jermon Bushrod retires

The Miami Dolphins have seen plenty of faces come and go through their offensive line room over the course of the last five years or so. Rookies, young underachievers, accomplished starters from elsewhere, over the hill veteran stopgaps — the Dolphins have tried darn near everything to try to find a winning combination along the offensive line.

On Friday, one of Miami’s more successful short-term bandaids in recent memory announced that he was hanging up his cleats and calling it a career. Jermon Bushrod did not play in Miami long — he was only on the team for the 2016 and 2017 seasons. But he started a possible 22 of 32 contests over those two seasons for Miami and was a significant contributor to the team’s 10-6 season and wildcard berth under then first-year head coach Adam Gase.

In all, Bushrod played 12 seasons in the NFL. Starting and finishing his NFL career in New Orleans, Bushrod has logged snaps for the Saints (7 seasons), Chicago Bears (3 seasons) and Dolphins (2 seasons). He was named to two Pro Bowl rosters, once in 2011 and then again the following year in 2012.

Bushrod thanked all three organizations in his retirement announcement, which he shared on social media last night.
