Former Dolphins guard John Jerry signs with Cincinnati

Yes, you have read this headline correctly. Former Dolphins offensive guard John Jerry is, in fact, still in the NFL. The news broke yesterday in the late morning — first reported by Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk and since confirmed by numerous sources.

John Jerry’s career has gone on for a stunningly long time, especially when considering how much Jerry struggled during his time here in South Florida. But yet Jerry, 32 years old, will be with the Cincinnati Bengals next month for training camp and looking to add to his 101 career starts in the NFL.

The Dolphins drafted John Jerry in the 3rd-round of the 2010 NFL Draft out of Ole Miss, watching him go on to start 45 games for Miami over the next four seasons. His play was marred by bad reps in pass protection and he never felt like a stable piece of the offensive line.

After the 2014 season, Jerry signed on with the New York Giants, where he has spent the last four seasons and started 56 games.

In Cincinnati, Jerry will face competition from Alex Redmond and John Miller to claim the starting right guard position — a battle that Jerry could feasibly win and further add to his pro accolades.
