The Alliance of American Football (AAF) is in the second week of their inaugural season, bringing former NFL players and college standouts alike another chance to make a living on the football field. That includes a handful of former Miami Dolphins.
The league’s Memphis franchise, coached by NFL legend Mike Singletary, features several former Dolphins. The headliners? Guard Dallas Thomas and defensive tackles Julius Warmsley and Anthony Johnson.
Thomas, the 77th-overall pick of the 2013 NFL Draft, started for the Dolphins off and on for parts of four seasons before being unceremoniously cut two days after a horrific performance in a 30-17 loss to Tennessee in 2016.
Warmsley, an undrafted free agent out of Tulane in 2014, was cut from the same team several weeks later during his only season with the Dolphins.
Johnson was also an undrafted free agent after leaving LSU a year early in 2014. The New Orleans native spent one full season with Miami and was cut.
The former Dolphins and the rest of the Memphis Express took the field yesterday, losing to the Arizona Hotshots by a final score of 20-18 after seeing a 12-point fourth quarter lead evaporate.
Warmsley logged a sack in the contest.
