Much has been made about the departure of offensive tackle Ja’Wuan James this off-season. It took no time at all for the Denver Broncos to back up the money truck and make James one of the wealthiest offensive linemen in all of football.
But life hasn’t been so easy on the free agent market for other former Dolphins around the league. Take, for example, two big personalities who departed during the heart of the Adam Gase era.
Defensive tackle Ndamukong Suh and running back Jay Ajayi have yet to find new homes this off-season, having missed the first wave of free agency. Both players are facing unique situations in their efforts to land on their feet.
Suh, for example, signed a one-year mercenary deal with the Los Angeles Rams. His presence helped elevate the Rams to the Super Bowl, where they of course came up short against the New England Patriots.
A cap casualty as the Rams look to build out for the future, Suh is now looking for his next chance to win. There’s little inkling where that could be, as things currently stand.
Ajayi, on the other hand, is coming off a torn ACL, which he suffered in October. The saturation of running backs across the league, plus Ajayi’s extensive injury history with his knees, makes finding a home for him equally complicated.
Give the cost of some players still on the open market, it may be a while before either signs on the dotted line.
